Foil catalytic converters are made of short sheets of stainless steel arranged into a fingerprint-like structure. Each of these rolls are coated in precious metals. Foil converters are cost-effective and are usually used on small production runs.

Aftermarket catalytic converters are designed to take over if the catalytic converter fails. They, too, have a cordierite base. However, aftermarket converters have a much lower precious metal content than catalytic converters.
Diesel particulate filters (or DPFs) are used in diesel vehicles and are a requirement for vehicles manufactured after January 1st, 2007 in the US. DPFs reduce harmful gases as well as visible particulate matter in these vehicles.
Higher grade DPFs have a much higher precious metal content, making them worth the time, effort, and cost to recycle; lower grade DPFs do not, and so are recycled far less frequently.
DPFs are much more difficult to recycle than catalytic converters because of their silicon carbide structure and higher carbon content. If you’re looking to recycle DPFs, we recommend looking out for higher-grade components.
O2 sensors are used in vehicles to monitor oxygen levels. The information they gather is relayed to the ECM, or vehicle computer, and it helps the car to adjust fuel injection into the intake airstream. Many components within the vehicle control this.
