PMR was founded in 1996 in Laval, Quebec, starting off by buying and selling catalytic converters by the piece. We quickly saw an opportunity to evolve and in 1998, we acquired our first shear to cut converters and began harvesting the valuable metals inside. This move launched our company and set the stage for our continued success in the industry.
In 2002, we bought our first XRF machine and moved to a larger facility in Laval with 15 employees in the following year. We then expanded and relocated in 2007 to an even larger facility in Boisbriand, Quebec and opened a second location in 2010 in Brampton, Ontario. Only two years prior, a crisis shook the economy at a global scale, but this only proved that despite hard times, we were still in a position where expansion was possible.
We purchased our first ICP machine in 2011 and in the following year, deployed new technology, fully engineered in-house, to pay suppliers on assay results with the lowest minimum requirement in the industry (100 OEM converters). Two years later in 2014, we opened our third facility in Delray Beach, Florida and moved our Brampton location to a larger facility in Mississauga, Ontario. In 2015, we deployed PMR ONE, a system used to manage and automate invoicing and historical data, track lots, and arrange transport.
We deployed the SSP in 2016, a Supplier Services Platform with purchasing, evaluation, and processing tools. The most popular tool became photo-grading. Two years later, we deployed the inventory box program, a new feature and tool used for securing and valuing inventory in a lot format. In the same year, we opened our fourth facility for foil processing, including novel machinery. In 2019, we moved to an even larger facility in Mississauga, increasing location size for the second time in Ontario. We now employ more than 100 individuals. In 2020, we deployed a new Trim Grading tool and expanded our Boisbriand Headquarters by 27,000 square feet.
In 2022, we doubled down on business continuity and market leadership by consolidating materials to increase productivity. We heavily invested in a state-of-the-art facility in Mirabel, Quebec dedicated to research and development, allowing us to offer even more services in the future. We also invested in expanding our foil processing capabilities in Vegas to lower logistics expenses for suppliers and improve overall efficiency. As a result, we consolidated production in Canada at our Quebec locations and in the US at our Vegas location.
